Adaptive Trykes
We partner with Amtryke® to provide adaptive tricycles for individuals who aren’t able to ride a traditional two-wheel bike, whether due to physical, developmental, or cognitive challenges. Each tryke is custom-fitted to match the rider’s unique needs, offering a safe, stable, and comfortable way to experience the joy of riding.
Amtryke tricycles can be hand- and/or foot-operated and are designed for riders of all ages, sizes, and varying degrees of physical limitations. Physical and occupational therapists recognize their many therapeutic benefits, from improving strength and motor skills to building confidence and independence.
Get A Tryke
Gateway Tykes on Trykes provides adaptive trykes to riders in the St. Louis metro area. Riders are typically recommended to us by their physical or occupational therapist, as each tryke is custom fit by experts to meet the physical capabilities of each rider.
How To Get A Tryke
-
A therapist recommends an individual for an Amtryke and submits the completed required forms by email to tykesontrykes@gmail.com.
-
The individual will be evaluated and sized by an experienced Gateway Tykes on Trykes member or their own therapist if the therapist has been trained to fit adaptive tricycles.
-
The family determines how much financial assistance they may need to purchase a tricycle.
-
If assistance is needed, the individual is placed on our Wish List.
-
The chapter raises funds through donations and charity events to provide funding to fulfill the needs of those on the Wish List.
-
Once funding is secured, we order the tryke from Amtryke.
-
Gateway Tykes on Trykes assembles the tryke after it's delivered to us.
-
We arrange a time for the rider to pick up their very own tryke.
-
During the pickup, our team of therapists and mechanics ensure the rider receives a proper, custom fit.
